Rob's April Report

8 May 2026

Another busy, brilliant month — and with your support, we’ll keep growing.

Rob's April Report

April has been a gift this year — plenty of sunshine and, for once, Cornwall has stayed on the dry side. Newquay recorded just 13.6 mm of rain this month (the long‑term April average is over 50 mm), which is a big change after Cornwall was the wettest county in the UK last year. Even my Facebook rain dance didn’t bring much down.

The big news is that we’ve welcomed our first Garden Share volunteer, Sarah. With her Eden Project experience and enthusiasm, she’s already getting stuck into her new growing space. Huge thanks to Anna, Chris and family for offering their garden and for their generosity — they’ve even asked that most of the harvest goes straight to the community.

Across the gardens, things are moving fast:
\- Tomatoes, basil, cucumbers, radish and carrots are underway in the polytunnel.
\- First early potatoes are in, with radishes marking the rows.
\- Gooseberries and blackcurrants are leafing up beautifully.
\- Garlic is swelling nicely for a June/July harvest.
\- At home, trays of cabbage, lettuce, peas, sweetcorn, courgettes, squash and more are being raised ready for planting out.
\- Work now begins on preparing our third garden for a future volunteer.

🌿 Behind the scenes, more garden owners have come forward (thank you!), and we’re close to finalising an agreement with Truro City Council for a community growing space — a huge step for the project.
